The Ukrainian Cultural and Humanitarian Institute (UCHI) was founded in January 2002. UCHI is uniquely positioned to offer both humanitarian aid to Ukraine and information about and help accessing Western Pennsylvania resettlement resources. Our work with the local Ukrainian Community and with exchange groups from Ukraine under the auspices of the Open World Program has provide a solid foundation for expanding our support and aid to Ukraine and our local community–support that has become critical during this time of war and uncertainty. This work in addition to the Open World program that brings emerging leaders to the United States for intensive exchange with their professional counterparts, also, has included providing host placement and logistics services for Magee WomanCare International (MWI) with its international delegations; developing and publishing four educational books, providing a robust resource for assisting refugees resettling in the United States, including:
- Welcome to the USA: A HANDBOOK FOR IMMIGRANTS
- Tour Ukrainian Pittsburgh
- A Homestay Guide for Magee WomanCare International
- Ukrainians in Pittsburgh
Finally, our Western Pennsylvania Ukrainian Archives Program serving researchers both within the Ukrainian community as well as through donations to the Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center.
